I wish I had written this article from Newsweek. It was witty and quite honestly, true!

You can't get a cup of [coffee] big enough or a book long enough to suit me. --C. S. Lewis

Wow. I think he is really right. I just had an epiphany (or he did and I'm benefiting?). Thanks for the link. I have to do some serious thinking now. :)
I disagree, or partially disagree with the article. I agree that it is one of the great time wasters, but honestly so is blogging/ reading blogs. But, just like blogs, it has benefits. For me it is away to actually keep in touch with people I want to keep in touch ie in laws, people from church, old friends etc. I think it comes down to a matter of that old balancing act again. Sigh.. i hate having to priortize. ;)
I agree with Karen.
It depends on what your purpose is.
We coudl say the same thing about watching a football game or going to the movies, or even watching t.v. What is the purpose? You might be watching these things w/ people, but are you really interacting? Probably not much beyond high-fives an cheers (football) or laughing or crying at the same time.
I held out on face book until this past fall. I work the with teens at my church. Frankly, I can't get them to answer an email (except for a few), but I can get them to answer an FB event posting or a wall-to-wall.
It is a useful tool.
And I have reconnected with some gals from high school. Gospel opportunities seem to be there. One has been coming to church with my friend and me now.
I agree with Karen and -M. It depends on how you use it and how you use your time. I tend to think it's a bigger time waster than blogging, because you actually have to put forth thoughts and write to have a blog.
I really don't spend a huge about of time on FB. I've used it to stay in touch with people. I have a ton of long distant friends, so that's the main reason I like it. If all my friends lived locally, it probably would be less useful. It's all about being aware of your time, how you're using it, and what God's calling you too. Each day and season has different priorities, and if we seek God each day as to what they are, he'll make it clear.
Facebook doesn't monopolize my time because I don't let it! I think, like anything else, if it is out of balance in our lives, then it becomes a problem. For me, Facebook is a way to keep in touch with people I would never see/talk to otherwise. Again, balance is the key... :-) Don't quit, Libby, because that is how I talk to you!! Love, Momma O.
My response is similar. Get over it people, everything is a time waster if you allow it to be! The only thing I can think of is that if you are a lazy person and are prone to just sit in front of your computer for endless amounts of time, then you should get a timer and set that so that you don't go over your time limit. Again, anything and everything that be a time waster. I have friends that spend so much time cleaning their house, that they probably should be spending it more with their families, so in my opinion they are probably wasting their time. When I sit down to watch one television show that I love and end up watching 2-3 just because I'm sitting there and they are on? Guess what, that's a time waster, too. I actually had someone (a man that was not my husband) tell me that I have a family to take care of as well as a husband and I shouldn't probably be on the blogs as much as I am. Wow, I thought. But then again, he probably has no idea that he just wasted his time (ie, breath and energy) telling me that. Only you know how much time you are wasting. End of my rant ;)
